Community Blogs and the Same Old, Same Old

I like the idea of Community Blogs. You remember back in the bad old days when there were community message boards at the Post Office and Newsletters dropped off by the local paperboy? Of course not. We’re not that old (no offence Debbie). But having a blog like the locallygrownnorthfield.org/ seems like a pretty nifty idea. I mean visit the site. Go there. It looks good. And is kinda funny. It uses the term malcontents for concerned citizens. Who would expect to see that on a Community Blog? Not I either. But that should really be the point of blogs in the first place. Giant letters to the editor. Opinions, information, and junk you won’t find in the newspaper. Plus freeness. That’s always a bonus.

As for the next article on Credibility, Selective Exposure, and Racial Prejudice, I’ll just say the same thing I often say. I’m really not that surprised. With any new media credibility is often an issue.
Anyone seen those cure-all-wonder-medicine ads in old newspapers? Not at all credible, but someone was paying so the newspapers took them. Did early television feature news that challenged big business? Nope. And have those of African origin had to fight for representation in every single media to date (Newspaper, TV, Internet, Cereal Boxes)? Yes they have. All of this has happened before. And it will without a doubt happen again.
Sounds sad, but all of this is really history. Got to know our past to understand out future. Or something like that.

Good point. I think blogs should contain information you wouldn’t find in a newspaper!
