The following is the Investigation and reporting of findings based on the Mountaineer Maniacs and WVU Arts and Entertainment!
Reporting of Findings
In order to evaluate the Mountaineer Maniacs and WVU A&E use of social media and its effectiveness we focused on four main points we considered to be important. These points were, synergy – linking from site to site, user participation, reliable information, and constant monitoring.
The survey we sent to Mountaineer Maniacs and WVU A&E Members and Followers and the point system can be seen below (while the wording was the same in each survey the name Maniacs or WVU A&E was changed appropriately):
Please pick the answers that most accurately describe your views:
1. I receive accurate, up to the minute information about the Mountaineer Maniacs/WVU A&E using Facebook and Twitter updates.
Strongly Disagree (0 point) , Disagree (1 point) , Agree (2 points), Strongly Disagree (3 points)
2. The Maniacs/WVU A&E communicate with me more efficiently through messages on Facebook and/or Twitter than e-mail.
Strongly Disagree (0 point) , Disagree (1 point) , Agree (2 points), Strongly Agree (3 points)
3. Are you more likely to check your e-mail for information about the Maniacs/WVU A&E, your Facebook, or your Twitter?

4. If you have ever used the pages to communicate with the Mountaineer Maniacs/WVU A&E on Facebook or Twitter, do you feel they promptly responded with the information your sought?
I have never used the pages to communicate with Mountaineer Maniacs (0 point)
The response was slow and unsatisfactory. (0 point too)
The response was prompt but unsatisfactory. (1 point)
The response was slow and satisfactory (1 points)
The response was prompt and satisfactory (2 points).
The survey was conducted by sending users messages through their Facebook and Twitter who were members/followers of the Maniacs and WVU A&E. Question one evaluates the factor of reliable information, questions two and three evaluate user participation, and question four evaluates constant monitoring.
The survey has been sent out to over 50 Mountaineer Maniacs and WVU A&E fans who use these sites, and currently we are still waiting on responses to find the mean and mode based on our points system.
The next step in our research was observing the Maniacs Facebook and Twitter pages for the above factors:
| Facebook Fan Page | Twitter Page | |
| Members / Followers | 6, 581 | 328 |
| Relevant Updates in the last Month* | 10 | 4 |
| Synergy (link to other social networking site) | yes | yes |
| Reliable Information** | yes | yes |
*Relevant Information was evaluated by each update/tweet including a time, date, and location for the event that it was advertising to keep users informed. The reason that we chose a month to monitor the updates was because there are not sporting events everyday so we wanted to pick a long enough period that enough games/matches/etc would have occurred.
** Reliable information was based on the last month’s worth of updates by checking the WVU athletic calendar to make sure that the events did occur at those places and times.
And here is the WVU Arts &Entertainment table:
| Facebook Fan Page | Twitter Page | |
| Members / Followers | 1,516 | 348 |
| Relevant Updates in the last Month* | 21 | 17 |
| Synergy (link to other social networking site) | yes | yes |
| Reliable Information** | yes | yes |
